"African development depends on the increased movement of people, goods and services between different countries for all of us to benefit. We will not allow criminals to set back these processes.”
The long forgotten xenophobic (having or showing a dislike or prejudice against people from other countries) attacks in South Africa seem to be on the rise again as three Malawians lose their lives over a protest which later went downside.
Three people lost their lives when protests targeting foreign-owned shops in the southeastern KwaZulu-Natal province deteriorated.
The South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa condemned the attacks stating that the country is benefiting heftily from foreigners who saw it fit to invest and live in the country. Thus, he urged the attacks to seize henceforth.
President Cyril Ramaphosa’s statement reads;
"Today, our economy and society benefits from our extensive trade and investment relations with partners on our continent and many of our continental compatriots live in South Africa where they are making important contributions to the development of our country.
"African development depends on the increased movement of people, goods and services between different countries for all of us to benefit. We will not allow criminals to set back these processes.”
Meanwhile, three Malawian residents lost their lives to the attack leaving others in fear thereby, choosing to flee for their lives.
