My Trip To Lagos, NIGERIA | TRAVELING ALONGSIDE A PERVERT
By Nneka Olisa - October 28, 2019
In my 24 years of existence and most of my adulthood, I've always heard about how interesting Lagos is, the awaiting opportunities for grabs the largest city in the whole of West Africa, Lagos, has in store for any individual. In fact, in my sixth sense, it is definitely the New York of Nigeria. So I always wanted to visit in other to have a feel of what the city is like and most especially spend some nights there.
So, this year, I thought to myself -- maybe I can make my birthday month #October a memorable one by visiting the city of Lagos.
I
resolved a plan for the trip to happen; made a budget, and wrote
down places, I'd love to visit.
My family resides in Port Harcourt but at the moment when I was supposed to embark on this trip, I was in Delta State. So I called my Mom on the phone to inform her of my decision... she gave me a go-ahead. Afterward, I called my sister and the husband to let them know I'd be coming down to their place and spending a few days.
Well, not being able to afford a flight ticket (In the nearest future, hopefully) I went to a transport line (Libmot.com) in Warri to make inquiries and to be exact on where their final drop off would be.
On a Monday morning, having gathered my belongings the night before, I wore my favorite denim jeans with a black top and a pair a flat, I headed for the park, got there by 7:10am and we left for Lagos by 8:15am (roughly an hour wasted).
Now, before this trip, I was already excited about the whole adventure I would love to have. I thought about visiting two popular places --- The Lekki Conservation Area (Address: Km 19 Lekki - Epe Expy, Lekki Penninsula II, Lekki) and Nike Art Gallery (http://www.nikeart.com). So I was pumped about the whole journey and all the adventures to come.

I
took a seat at the back of the bus, got myself comfortable and ready for the
journey to commence. The journey wasn't all smooth because of the bad roads (had a deja vu of my trip to the northern part of Nigeria, Kebbi State) which resulted in a banging head coupled with sitting close to a pervert who
practically made the journey unbearable.
At
first, I and the guy whom I shared the seat with exchanged a little conversation. The
basic convos you'd have with a stranger who probably knows more about your
destination and want to find out about the distance of the journey. That was
the sort of conversation I had with that guy when I got into the bus... till he
started making passes at me and consciously trying to place his irritant palm
on my thigh. I was mad pissed at him. Literally. Thank gracious heavens that I
chose a window seat and most of the time; I'd just stick my face towards the
window and avoid the whole scene and convo going on on the bus.
Now,
I'm not a snub of some sort, but behavior like this literally puts me off
people and wants not to initiate a conversation in the first place. Maybe, if I
had stepped onto that bus, and just minded my business.., all of that would not
have occurred. Still, that guy is a JERK!
Also,
I had to deal with the tight air in the bus which someone was consistently
polluting coupled with the bad breath of my annoying seatmate.
Regardless
I got a clear view of how the cities we passed on our way to Lagos were + I
still got some moments of tranquility regardless of the pain in the ass
pervert.
I
spent six days in Lagos... in between those days, I got to visit one of the largest
markets in Nigeria which is the Trade Fair Market where I got a weave and hair extensions. The
population in this place is no joke people. The roads were in a bad state which made vehicles almost inaccessible and transportation fares on the
rise.
I
also visited the Iyano-Oba market where I got some wears for myself.
I was
supposed to hang out with my friend who said he'd be coming into Lagos from
Port Harcourt a day after I got into town but he didn't show up because of
work. So I was left with no one to take me to my much-anticipated tourist
locations and I left the city of Lagos still wanting more adventures.
