Why Do We Always Go To Google For Answers?? – Thoughts and More (OPINION SATURDAY)
By Nneka Olisa - March 30, 2019
It is a wonder how much many of us depend so much on Google,
sometimes for answer with regards to things bugging us, or just for research
sake.
I happen to be among the crowd that is guilty of relying on Google
for almost everything ranging from health, skin care, work-out routine, food to
eat, style, fashion, religious beliefs, school research, and the craziest of
all, drug prescription… yeah, I know the last part isn’t so good.
I have been an active user of search engine and always had a
curious mind from a tender age. If I have something bugging me, I literally go
on Google search engine to see what it has to say.
One time, I was so sick, and being someone who loves to find
answers themselves, and have my judgment or opinion of things, I went on Google
searching for what kind of sickness I was suffering from.
Having the symptoms of my illness at heart, I delved in to
get answers… Now this is where our mind comes in play when using Google.
THE POWER OF THE MIND
What your mind have already focused on or envisioned is what
you’d eventually believe no matter how many articles or write-ups you read up.
If every other thing you read doesn’t add up to what you fixated on, then it’s
never going to be true for you.
I was sick with obviously symptoms to actually detect what I
was suffering from.
Now, I went on Google and so many different illness were
been displayed with almost the same symptoms I was having. It was left for me
to determine what it was I wanted to believe was wrong with me. Was it Malaria?
Probably typhoid, or was I suffering from something else that was totally out
of my mind scope….
At that moment, it was my mind/idea or belief of what I
thought was wrong with me that actually made me believe in whatever content I
read at that moment. I had to debunk fears of other things popping up on my
screen, and fixate my mind in what I believed.
The good thing about Google is that you can have over one
thousand write-ups to read through before one comes to a conclusion or get an
answer.
Back then, I was not much of a thinker… I never really
understood how all those articles were been displayed and how Google came up
with those answers… coz it’s literally like, if one types anything on Google,
you’d eventually get an answer; Yeah, Even if you’re asking the weirdest things
like “Why did my best friend sleep with my boyfriend?” or “How can you find a
missing notebook.” You’d be surprised to
see articles and write-ups about such topic. THAT IS WHAT GOOGLE DOES FOR US. It
utilizes information and makes it more useful for a user. It literally gives us
this wide range of answers and tells us, “here! Make your choice.”
Although most persons trust Google answers so much that they
do not bother to go pass the first page.
In arrears, it took me time to grab all these because I was
not paying much attention and was distracted with school work and all...... not
until lately that I started to get more involved with my blog and plunged into
research and reading other website’s feed by subscribing, adding any website’s Uniform Resource Locator (url) I feel is content-full to my reading list.
Now, one would ask what is this Rss feed she’s trying to get
at.
If you’re a blogger or just an ordinary person with a lot of
interest in reading and you totally love a blog or website…. let’s say you are
very much involved in style and fashion, you stumble upon this website which
has so many amazing contents you can relate with, you get interested and maybe
a minute into perusing through the website, a JavaScript drop-down box appears
asking you to subscribe for more by inputting your email details and all so
that contents once posted, can be sent directly to your box.. This way, you get
to be one of the first to view their contents faster.
Rss feed is a collation of web feed which allows users and
applications to access update to online content in a standardized, computer
readable format--- ---------WIKIPEDIA.
Wrapping my mind on all of these ideas and insights, I ask
myself which people make up google contents and realized that it is you and everyone who uses the internet at some point.
There are over a million websites out there, and each day,
new ones come into existence.
Here you have it. GOOGLE FEEDS ON THE CONTENT YOU POST!!!! Google being a knowledge base
system, leverage on all of those contents sent on those website… gives you a
more precise and articulated one and with other residues behind for you to
select what best works for you.
Like I mentioned earlier, accepting whatever information you
get on Google has to do with the user's mind and ideas, also bearing in mind that, behind all those information gotten, is someone writing off on what they
believe works for them.
I often hear people say “don’t believe everything you read
on Google.” “Google is shit.” Or a more positive comment like, "Oh! I found this wonderful site that enables me to work out."
