APC Reacts To Ban Of Public Rallies in Rivers State

By Nneka Olisa - March 29, 2019

Following the ban of public rallies and protests in Rivers State, the All Progressive Congress seems to not be in support as they’ve condemned the development.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Finebone revealed the disappointment of its party to the press.

He said the party considered the ban as the “height of absurdity”

The Rivers people and Nigerians have the right to a peaceful protest. Thus, the ban is an act of illegality.
He went further to remind Wike that Honorable Retired Justice Adekeye J.S.C. stated that, “A rally or placard-carrying demonstration has become a form of expression of views on current issues affecting government and the governed.
It is a trend recognized and deeply rooted in the system of governance in civilized countries.”
“The party is in shock as to why Wike would take such a decision, seeing in the past that he had also used such measure to reach out to people and get things done.”
“The only reason for doing this, is if the governor feels threatened knowing fully well that the Rivers people are now coming out to make their voices heard.”  Mr Chris Finebone lamented.
